Thompson & Co. Public Relations President and CEO Jennifer Thompson will be inducted into the Anchorage ATHENA Society on March 21, along with 10 other members in the class of 2016.
Anchorage’s most influential female leaders are invited into the society each year, chosen for their support of Anchorage’s business community and their dedication to helping business women in Anchorage. A program of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, the society works to encourage the potential of all women as valued members and leaders of the business community.
The Alaska Journal of Commerce named Thompson & Co. Public Relations Vice President Gary Scott to its 2016 class of Top Forty Under 40 men and women in the state.
This honor is bestowed upon Alaska’s top professionals under the age of 40 who have excelled in their career field and who have exhibited a tremendous amount of commitment to their community.
Recently celebrating his 10th anniversary at Thompson & Co., Scott rose through the ranks from account executive to vice president in eight years. Scott works behind the scenes with multiple major Alaska businesses and organizations to help them achieve success. He currently manages public and community relations for such clients as Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Anchorage Economic Development Corp., Recover Alaska and the State of Alaska’s Department of Economic Development. These organizations count on Scott to bring them forward-thinking campaigns and ideas through which they can share their programs and initiatives with media and the community.
On Feb. 1, Thompson & Company PR expands to Houston, Texas, creating the third location for the nationally-recognized firm. Located in downtown Houston at Two Allen Center, the new Gulf Coast office will bridge relationships between the agency’s clients that have operations and partnerships in Texas and along the Gulf Coast.
Thompson & Co. recently promoted Liz Baker to vice president, and she will lead the Gulf Coast office in her new role. Baker joined the agency as a senior account manager in 2012 after moving to Anchorage with agency experience from her home state of South Carolina. The Alaska Zoo is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing and finding homes for orphaned, injured or endangered animals. For 46 years, the Alaska Zoo has cared for Alaska’s orphaned and injured wildlife and developed programs to educate industries that interact with these animals in their natural habitat. The Zoo has also supported relief efforts for nuisance wildlife and provided oil spill response expertise. In addition, they dedicated training to youth and provided a research base for agency and corporate partners all while being the state’s largest zoo that in 2014 had nearly 190,000 visitors.
Thompson & Co. Public Relations added experience to its Anchorage, Alaska, office with the addition of former NBC-affiliate reporter Abby Cooper as account executive and Sydney Brusewitz as account coordinator, as well as the promotions of Nikkie Viotto and Emily McLaughlin to junior account executives. In their new roles, each will work for a variety of the agency’s clients including managing social media, writing press releases and pitching media.

PR News has named Jennifer Thompson, president and CEO of Thompson & Co. Public Relations, to its first-ever list of Top Women in PR.
Thompson graduated from Homer High School in 1988 and left soon after for college. Her father was Jack Walsh, the art and pottery teacher at Homer High; her mother, Lynn Walsh, worked at South Peninsula Hospital.
The PR News award program recognizes the most influential women in the public relations profession, spanning a wide range of industries and sectors, both domestic and international. Jennifer Thompson and Thompson & Co. make the inaugural list with the likes of public relations executives for such internationally recognized brands and agencies as CNN, Coca Cola North America, MGM Resorts International, Porter Novelli, Ruder Finn, Time Warner Cable, Toyota Motor Sales and Under Armour.
